The Game Performance Assessment Battery (GamePAB) is a product of the Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI) and the University of Central Florida Institute for Simulation and Training (IST). GamePAB measures an individual's proficiency at first-person perspective video games based on three critical gaming tasks: (a) locomotion (keyboard), (b) view/aim control (mouse), and (c) communication/multi-tasking (auditory/verbal). GamePAB can be used along with the Game Experience Measure (GEM), a questionnaire that collects a user's past game experience, to explore the usability of different game-based simulation interfaces, e.g., how game proficiency is related to the ease of use and satisfaction of novices, experts, or both. They can also identify user deficiencies in order to make a game-based training exercise more effective, e.g., where simulator train-up is needed.
